A local civil engineering firm with
about 25 employees and no
dedicated IT staff brought DBM Associates in to discuss concerns they had
about potential security exposures, proper software licensing, and whether
they were getting the most benefit from their IT investment.
They had recently migrated from a proprietary and obsolete
CAD package to AutoCAD in a Windows 2000 environment, and had been replacing
desktop and notebook systems as needed, but did not otherwise have an IT
strategy in place.
DBM recommended the TAP (Technology Assessment Profile) to
survey the
firm’s overall IT environment to
better identify and prioritize areas needing attention. The assessment
was based on interviews with company principals
and selected managers. Both known and
undiscovered problem areas were identified, and
recommendations were made to resolve these issues as well as add
some
desired new functionality. The client has addressed some of these issues
themselves, and engaged DBM to resolve others.
"The report prepared by DBM as
a result of their assessment provided us with very useful information. Some of
the issues that DBM identified were fully expected. Other issues and their
possible solutions we had never even closely considered.
The Technology Assessment and the follow-up assistance
provided by DBM has addressed our initial needs, and has
given us a foundation to begin implementing a
coordinated IT strategy for system enhancements, security, and efficiency."
